The movie ‘Laws of Attraction’ is a well-threaded light comedy, wherein two top divorce lawyers, who have never lost a case, both gorgeous and single, stand opposed to each other in court. Audrey is edgy and uptight, a perfectionist, while Dan is more the sloppy, debonair, intuitive type. Both eventually get romantic about each other and ultimately fall in love.
Although attraction is a natural phenomenon, it can surely be channeled. You can behave in such a way that members of the opposite sex can easily get attracted you. Once this attraction is cultivated, you begin to exercise stimulus on others. According to Dr. Albert Scheflen, author of Body Language and the Social Order, even standing in a room is considered an attraction criteria. Your position and action in a room does a lot to attract without you even knowing about it. Therefore, people who tend to be in the center are more likely sources of attraction. Let’s study some more about the laws of human attraction.
Attraction is attention, affection, and respect. To successfully attract others by including attention, affection, and respect, you can follow the below given points.
Like Attracts Like
According to Norman Peale, like attracts like, birds of a feather flock together. This being an important law of attraction does surely apply in this case as well. So, expect somebody to like you only if you like them.
The Act of Giving
God loves a cheerful giver; the act of giving is more divine than receiving. Let your heart share what you have with others. Giving or donating something gives a very positive and satisfied feeling. Give without expecting anything in return; it need not necessarily be something very big, even donating blood can be a big thing if you perceive it that way. The feeling to give should come from inside, from one’s heart in order to feel blessed and buoyant.
“Humility is not renunciation of pride but the substitution one pride for another”, suggested Eric Hoffman. Charity, tolerance, and humility have supreme value. Humility and inner peace go hand in hand. Try to believe in yourself rather proving things to others. Being humble will let you achieve a lot of things, however you should set your ego aside because both ego and humility cannot reside simultaneously.
Faith and Patience
Faith and patience are pre-conditions of attraction or being attracted. So have faith in yourself, and be patient.
Be Attractive to Yourself
What we tell ourselves about our lives day after day has a great effect on our personality. If you see yourself as an attractive and charming person, you’ll generate positive vibes or ways that would help you attract or get attracted.
Stay Cheerful and Happy
When you smile, your brain puts into action, the endorphins―the natural pain relievers of our body. Other than that, a smile relaxes you and makes you feel peaceful and content. Smiling doesn’t cost you anything, so always greet people with a nice smile. Like Andre Crippa says, “We do not completely love those at whom we cannot smile.” This means if you find comfort at smiling at a person, the chances of attraction are more likely. It is also said that a smile is the shortest distance between two people.
Enthusiasm & Passion
The former is the mother of success; it brings money, power, and influence. Ralph Emerson says “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” If that’s the case, then how can one possibly attract or get attracted without being enthusiastic. Do whatever you do with full enthusiasm, being enthusiastic is one of the keys to attraction.
“Good manners is the art of making those people easy with whom we converse.” said Jonathan Swift. Good behavior, courtesy, and kindness make others believe in you. Inculcate good mannerisms, behave politely with everyone; good manners do the trick of attracting a lot of pretty eyes towards you.
“The senses have been conditioned by attraction to the pleasant and aversion to the unpleasant: a man should not be ruled by them; they are obstacles in his path.” says the Bhagvad Gita. This simply means that attraction to a certain extent is pleasant and rewarding. However, a lot of it can develop into desire, and desire breeds anger. So, controlling attraction is very essential.
The below given theory sheds more light over the concept of attraction. Take a look.
Theory of Attraction
Attraction Theory is defined as the theory concerned with the process involved in attributing causation or motivation to a person’s behavior. Why are we attracted to certain individuals and not others? Many scholars believe attraction is based on people who are more similar to us. “Reinforcement and attraction are positively correlated, the more reinforcement one gets, the more attraction one feels” (Byrne, 1967). Attraction is based on three major factors (see DeVito, 1998):
Attractiveness: A man’s personal qualities and a woman’s physical attractiveness are the most common factors of attraction.
Proximity: “The people who become friends have the greatest opportunity to interact” says DeVito. Proximity simply means closeness. If you’re close enough to a person you like, attraction is more likely; friendship is a means of progressing a step further towards attraction. However, attraction doesn’t solely mean friendship.
Similarity: Perceived similarity is the degree to which we believe another’s characteristics to be similar to ours. However, similarity in its true sense means thinking on similar lines, or having similar interests. Proximity plus similarity would surely help one attract or get attracted to another.
